“Here, I have held a February Foldscope challenge, and I want you all to start it from today onwards,” announced Namrata Didi, as if she were declaring a national emergency.

The whole day, my brain was working like a slow internet connection. Then—BAM! A genius idea struck: moving things! Something alive, something that wiggles! First, I tried an ant… but, of course, the universe had other plans. The ant, instead of moving, just sat there like it had taken a vacation. Was it playing dead? Maybe the ant needed a drop of coffee to drink.

When I removed the ant to release him/her, I found it dead on the slide. I murdered that ant, but I think it deserved it. The ant had already broken my expectations before.

I ran to a nearby garden with tweezers and a small box. Small children looked at me like I was an alien. After looking everywhere, I couldn’t find anything special.
I hate my life. I was tired of finding the perfect insect.

I sat on a bench and… I found a perfect small insect on the handle of the bench! I carefully picked it up—and again, it fell down. After what felt like an eternity, it was finally in my box.

I went home, put the insect on my slide, and got ready to look at it in the Foldscope. Since it had troubled me so much, I expected some magical microscopic beauty.
Instead, what I saw made me scream—EWWWWWWW.

Its legs moved like an awkward dance; its hands looked like they were plotting something evil. I could even see its blood circulation—and that was both disgusting and fascinating.

And then, a devilish idea came into my mind—let’s prank my not-so-innocent mom.
I called out sweetly, “Ammi, see this amazing slide I made!”

I made her look inside, and moments later, I heard the loudest scream ever in the history of my family. My precious Foldscope went flying; it was above my head.

Just when I was about to catch my Foldscope, my leg slipped. I imagined my slide being broken and lying on the ground—but phew! I caught it in my hands perfectly.

But I was not ready for my mother to throw things at me.
Fun times, I guess!!

I made my sister look too. My sister, instead of screaming, looked way too excited. She even leaned in for a closer look.
I started questioning her DNA.

In the end, what started as just a Foldscope challenge turned into a wild adventure filled with tiny surprises. From chasing insects to scaring my mom, I realized that even the smallest things—like watching a tiny creature under a microscope—can bring so much excitement and laughter.

Science didn’t just teach me about the weird, wiggly world of insects; it show-ed me that happiness isn’t always in big moments. Sometimes, it’s in the tiniest things—like a moving leg under a lens or a perfectly timed prank on family.
